Dell 17.3-Inch Laptops Lineup at a Glance

The Models in Detail

Dell Inspiron 17 3793 Laptop 17.3″

Best for: Users needing legacy ports and optical storage

The Dell Inspiron 17 3793 Laptop 17.3″ provides a traditional big-screen computing experience centered around a 17.3-inch Full HD non-touch WVA display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and anti-glare coating. Powered by a 10th Generation Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor with a 6MB cache up to 3.60 GHz, integrated Intel UHD Graphics, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe solid-state drive, it delivers ample room for unscaled application windows. For users accustomed to external desktop displays like a dell 24 inch monitor adjustable height setup, this spacious panel offers a comparable wide view in an all-in-one format.

This model stands out for its versatile connectivity and integrated legacy media features. Dell includes an optical disk drive, an SD card reader, one USB 3.1 Type-C port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI 1.4b output, an RJ45 Ethernet port, and a headphone/microphone audio jack. These native connections allow traveling creators to ingest camera cards and connect to wired networks directly without carrying extra adapters. Finished in black, it runs Windows 10 and includes a 12-month McAfee Small Business Security subscription with a 30-day Microsoft Office trial.

This machine suits business professionals and archivists who require physical disc playback, native SD transfers, and a vast display for everyday computing. However, packing this laptop demands accommodation for its 6.1-pound weight and broad physical footprint. In addition, the listing does not specify battery capacity in watt-hours or projected runtimes, meaning reliable AC outlet access is necessary when working on location. When lightweight packability and modern power delivery take priority, the Inspiron 3793 yields to slimmer, more compact options in Dell’s lineup.

Dell Precision 7720 17.3″ FHD Laptop

Best for: Engineers and editors needing maximum memory

The Dell Precision 7720 17.3″ FHD Laptop is a commercial-grade mobile workstation built for stability and demanding computing tasks. Offered through Amazon Renewed, this unit features a 17.3-inch Full HD 1920 x 1080 display powered by an Intel Core i7-6820HQ quad-core processor. With 32GB of RAM, a 512GB solid-state drive, and Windows 11 Pro, it provides immense memory capacity for complex spreadsheets, virtualization, and enterprise applications. While a single laptop panel cannot match the sprawling horizon of a dell 40 inch monitor, its 17.3-inch screen comfortably accommodates multi-pane application windows.

Internally, the Precision 7720 focuses on business productivity and robust system resources. Its 32GB memory footprint allows seamless multitasking across demanding software tools without performance bottlenecks. The listing specifications note an Intel video processor, integrated graphics with DDR3 SDRAM, and chassis dimensions of 11 inches long by 1 inch wide by 3 inches thick. Running Windows 11 Pro, it provides advanced operating system security and administrative controls, making it an effective mobile deployment for enterprise environments and on-site engineering assignments.

This workstation is designed for professionals establishing semi-permanent field bases, job-site trailers, or mobile technical desks where processing reliability matters more than backpack weight. It is far less suitable for editors working during flights or daily transit, as its thick frame and substantial build require a large gear bag. Furthermore, the listing does not specify unit weight or battery runtime. For mobile creators who prioritize lightweight carrying and all-day battery efficiency, this heavyweight workstation yields to modern slim-profile notebooks.

Dell 16 Inch FHD+ Touchscreen AI

Best for: Mobile creators wanting vertical screen space

For editors seeking an expansive display without excessive chassis bulk, the Dell 16 Inch FHD+ Touchscreen AI offers a balanced mobile solution. It features a 16.0-inch FHD+ touch-enabled display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio, providing 11 percent more vertical screen space than traditional widescreen panels. Powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 170 8-core processor, an integrated 16 TOPS neural processing unit, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, it handles video editing and creative workflows smoothly while weighing only 4.18 pounds.

The display uses WVA/IPS technology with 300 nits of brightness and ComfortView to minimize blue light fatigue during long editing marathons. For remote collaboration, it includes a Full HD 1080p webcam, integrated microphone, and Realtek RTL8852BE WiFi 6 for fast wireless connections. Connectivity is versatile, featuring a USB-C port supporting DisplayPort 1.4, Power Delivery, and 10Gbps transfers, alongside two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and an HDMI 1.4 port. Its slim chassis measures 0.66 to 0.78 inches thick and 14.07 inches wide by 9.87 inches deep.

This notebook suits traveling creators, students, and professionals who want modern processing performance, touch interaction, and added vertical canvas in a backpack-friendly format. Finished in Carbon Black with a backlit keyboard and Windows 11 Home, it easily slips into standard luggage. However, it lacks the built-in optical drive of the Inspiron and the 32GB memory capacity of the Precision. Users requiring specialized legacy hardware or maximum workstation memory will find those capabilities better met by dedicated larger chassis.

Dell 15.6 Laptop

Best for: Frequent travelers prioritizing packability and fast charging

When mobility, packing light, and battery management take center stage, the Dell 15.6 Laptop provides an efficient travel option. Weighing only 3.6 pounds in a Platinum Silver clamshell body, it runs on a 13th Generation Intel Core i7-1355U processor with integrated Intel UHD Graphics, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB solid-state drive. It is designed for business tasks, student learning, and everyday computing, fitting easily into compact daypacks and airline carry-on sleeves where larger laptops cannot fit.

Ergonomics and charging efficiency are central to this model’s design. It incorporates an anti-glare Full HD 1080p display with Dell ComfortView to reduce eye strain. Lifted hinges elevate the keyboard deck to create an ergonomic typing angle for wrist comfort during extended typing sessions. The keyboard features a numeric keypad and a dedicated calculator hotkey. The listing notes energy-efficient batteries paired with Express Charge support to quickly top up power during short travel breaks, alongside 1 Year Onsite Service for hands-on hardware repairs if needed.

This clamshell notebook is ideal for frequent flyers, consultants, and students who value low carry weight, fast charging, and compact dimensions over massive screen real estate. It includes a memory card slot, HD audio, and a backlit keyboard for working in dim environments. However, the 15.6-inch screen offers less visual workspace than 16-inch or 17.3-inch panels. Editors managing multi-track video timelines or detailed side-by-side documents may find this compact display less spacious than the larger Dell alternatives.

FAQ

Can a Dell 17.3-inch laptop fit inside standard commuter travel backpacks?

A traditional 17.3-inch laptop, such as the Dell Inspiron 17 3793 or Dell Precision 7720, generally exceeds the dimensions of standard commuter backpacks designed for 15-inch or 16-inch laptops. Because of their wide chassis dimensions and weights exceeding six pounds, packing a 17.3-inch machine safely requires a dedicated 17-inch travel backpack with reinforced padding and wide shoulder straps. For travelers who want to use standard travel bags or personal-item airline packs, stepping down to a 16-inch or 15.6-inch model provides a far more seamless fit.

How does the 16:10 aspect ratio improve mobile productivity over 16:9?

Traditional 17.3-inch screens like those on the Inspiron 3793 and Precision 7720 use a 16:9 aspect ratio at 1920 x 1080 resolution, offering wide horizontal space that excels for side-by-side window tiling. In contrast, the Dell 16 Inch FHD+ Touchscreen AI uses a 16:10 aspect ratio at 1920 x 1200 resolution. This configuration delivers 11 percent more vertical screen real estate, allowing creative editors to view extra video tracks, audio channels, or lines of code without constant vertical scrolling, bringing the functional feel of a larger display into a noticeably more compact chassis.

Does the Dell Inspiron 17 3793 support USB-C power delivery charging?

While the Dell Inspiron 17 3793 features a USB 3.1 Type-C port alongside its USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 2.0, and HDMI connections, the listing does not specify Power Delivery input for charging the laptop through that port. Travelers should plan to carry the standard proprietary AC power adapter that accompanies the system. If universal USB-C charging is an essential requirement for your travel packing strategy, modern machines like the Dell 16 Inch FHD+ Touchscreen AI explicitly include USB-C Power Delivery support.

Which model is best suited for fast recharging during airport layovers?

The Dell 15.6 Laptop is the premier option among these four machines for quick power turnaround on the move. Its listing specifically highlights energy-efficient battery architecture paired with Express Charge technology, designed to boost battery percentages rapidly during short intervals near power outlets. Combined with its light 3.6-pound frame and lifted hinge design, it is tailored specifically for the quick rhythms of mobile business travel.

Is 8GB of RAM sufficient for video editing workflows on a large laptop?

The 8GB DDR4 RAM in the Dell Inspiron 17 3793 is sufficient for standard office tasks, web multitasking, document processing, and basic photo adjustments. However, demanding video editing workflows and high-resolution rendering benefit substantially from higher memory bandwidth and capacity. For intensive multitasking and demanding creative applications on the road, laptops configured with 16GB of DDR5 RAM like the Dell 16 Inch FHD+ Touchscreen AI, or workstations with 32GB of RAM like the Dell Precision 7720, provide significantly smoother responsiveness and headroom.
